Michael Samuel Aiello went home to be with the Lord on September 10, 2026, at the age of 95.

Michael, born Michele Sandoro on September 22, 1930, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, was the son of Michelina (Innotti) and Angelo Sandoro and was lovingly raised by Carolina (Marino) and Luigi Mario Aiello. He was blessed to be loved and cherished by two families throughout his life.

Michael began his working life in the family shoe business before answering the call to serve his country in the United States Army. He proudly served as a Corporal during the Korean War and was honored to serve in Europe. After returning home, Michael worked at Johnson Bronze. He later joined Rockwell International, Axel Boeing Plant, where he worked as a machine operator for 27 years.

He was preceded in death by both sets of parents; Michelina and Angelo Sandoro, and Carolina and Luigi Aiello; and his 11 siblings: Joseph Sandora, Patsy Sandora, Ida (Sandora) Boazzo, Joseph Aiello, Samuel Aiello, Angeline Grant, Genevieve Fidell, Jennie Villa, Frances Aiello, Mary Christine (Tina) Aiello, and Clara (Dolly) Mastroianni.

Michael leaves behind his loving wife of 71 years, Ellen (Sorbo) Aiello, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, family, and memories. He is also survived by his daughter, Toni Lynn (Aiello) Saylor (Dan).

Michael’s greatest joy was his family, and he especially adored his grandchildren: Dawn (Saylor) Frame (Haden); Shauna (Saylor) Stone (Rob); and Daniel “DJ” Saylor (Cassidy Hyde).

He was incredibly proud to be blessed with five great-grandchildren; Kenny Stone, Nora Stone, Emerson Saylor, Avery Saylor, and Braylon Saylor; each of whom brought immeasurable joy, love, and pride into his life. His family also included five beloved grand-pups; Aurora, Kasper, Maverick, Charlotte, and Dewey; who held their own special place in his heart.

Michael was also a loving and cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews. His extended family meant so much to him, and he treasured the relationships, memories, and love they shared throughout the years.

Michael was deeply connected to the community of New Castle and gave generously of his time and friendship. He was a proud member of VFW Post 315, American Legion Post 343, Italian American War Veterans Post 26, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 455, and the Polish Falcons, NEST. He also served as Vice President of Family First Credit Union in New Castle, Pennsylvania.

Michael enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially bowling and cheering on his beloved Pittsburgh sports teams. Even after moving to Ohio, he made sure everyone knew exactly where his loyalty remained, proudly cheering for the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates.

Michael was a member of Saint Vitus Church in New Castle, Pennsylvania where he served as an usher. After moving to Ohio, his faith continued to be an important part of his life. He became active in the children’s ministries at First Baptist Church of LaGrange, where he loved serving, encouraging, and spending time with the children. Michael lived a long and meaningful life centered around family, service, friendship, and faith. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on through his wife, daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and all those whose lives he touched. He will be remembered for his generous heart, his devotion to his family, his love of storytelling and infinity for dogs. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort knowing that he is now at peace and has gone home to be with the Lord.

A viewing will be held on September 15 at First Baptist Church of LaGrange (200 Church Street, LaGrange, OH) from 5–6 p.m., with a service to follow.

An additional viewing will be held on September 16 at R. Cunningham Funeral Home in New Castle, Pennsylvania, beginning at 11 a.m., with a service, including military honors, to follow at noon.
