Michael Jay Koch, 91, of Rhodes Estates, passed away the afternoon of December 27, 2010 in his residence.Born August 4, 1919, in New Castle, he was a son of the late John and Susan Bara Koch.Michael was previously married to Dorothy Nisula Koch. She survives in New Wilmington. He served in World War II as a Mess Sergeant for the Army. He was a self-employed real estate agent. Michael enjoyed golfing, fishing, and ice skating. In his younger years, he was an avid baseball player. He signed a contract to play ball with the St. Louis Browns. However, following a leg injury the contract was disolved. He was of the Baptist faith.He is survived by three daughters, Sondra L. Cusimano, of Denton, TX, K. Michele Barker, of New Castle, and Lillian S. Koch, of New Wilmington; two sisters, Helen Fullerton and Ethel Hudson, both of New Castle; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Paul, Frank, and Louie Koch; and four sisters, Margaret Muczko, Martha Kosola, Mary Beltrame, and Esther Beynon.There is no visitation.A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
