Michael Raymond Matis, 73, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of November 3, 2019 at Edison Manor. Born August 30, 1946 in New Castle, he was the son of Michael J. and Julia C. (Oczkowski) Matis. He is survived by his wife, Ada Mae (Tomasello) Matis at home. A Shenango High School graduate, Mike attended Youngstown State University and served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant. He was employed for many years at the New Castle News as a copy editor until his retirement. He was an F & A Mason of Lodge 389 West Middlesex, Lodge of the Craft Westminster, and 32 Degree Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle. He was also active with the Salvation Army and the Shriners. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Deborah Scott of Macon, Georgia and Jill Fralick of Pontiac, Michigan; and one brother, Jon Matis of Volant, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents. In keeping with Michael's wishes there will be no visitation or services. Arrangements have been entrusted to the R.
