Obituary

Mildred Ada Richeal Myers, 88, of New Castle, passed away the morning of Sunday, March 6, 2011.Mildred was born December 26, 1922. She was the loving, caring, devoted wife of Gaylord Leslie Myers who preceded her in death on June 4, 2007, their only separation in 68 years of marriage was with the exception of Gaylord's World War II service in Germany. Mildred was the beloved mother of Wayne Lee Myers of Rancho Mirage, CA (born March 24, 1940) and James Melvin Myers of Mooresville, NC (born July 13, 1950). Besides her two sons, Mildred leaves a daughter-in-law, Deborah Jo Miller Myers, wife of James and two grandsons, Justin James Myers and Nathan Miller Myers and wife Theresa Diana Myers of Raleigh, NC.Mildred is also survived by three sisters: Bernice Strawhecker of Enon Valley, PA; Doris Patton of Lucerne Valley, CA; and Jeanne Llewellyn of Phoenix, AZ. Mildred also leaves two sisters-in-law, Sara Shidemantle of Portersville, PA and Dorothy Myers McDougall of Delanco, NJ.Mildred was preceded in death by her parents Grace and Clarence Richeal and sisters Maxine Blakely and Dorothy Cooper.Mildred was the ideal mother, maintaining and ordered, nurturing home for her husband and sons. When Mildred's sons were grown, she entered the workplace to supplement the family income. Through the years, she was employed by Fisher Brothers, Montgomery Ward and Pentexx (Crane Company), all since closed. Her conscientiousness and attention to detail made her an exemplary employee.Among those who will miss Mildred are numerous nieces and nephews including Dwight and Ron Copper who became Mildred and Gaylord's steadfast surrogate sons. Mildred was loved and will be remembered by many friends and their families from Center United Presbyterian Church where she was a lifetime member, sang in the choir, and served faithfully in the Lois Morris Missionary Society. She was also a member of Liberty (East Brook) Grange. Millie will also be greatly missed by the staff of the Greer House where she resided and was tenderly cared for in her final years.Visitation will be Tuesday, March 8, 2011, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, March 9, 2011, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, 2429 Wilmington Road.The funeral service will follow the visitation on Wednesday, March 9 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. James Bibza will officiate, with interment following at Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
