Mildred R. Saros, 89, of 203 E. Sheridan Avenue, passed away the morning of January 5, 2013 following a stroke at the Evergreen Nursing Center in Harmony, PA. Born June 29, 1923, in Logansport, Indiana, she was the daughter of James A. Hankee, Sr. and Bessie May Smith Hankee. She was preceded in death on July 1, 2007 by her husband Steve B. Saros, whom she married on June 6, 1953. She was a graduate of South Side High School in Ft. Wayne, Indiana in 1941. Mildred was a secretary for several offices including Lincoln National Life in Ft. Wayne, IN. and Columbus Services in New Castle. She retired in 1988 from Vital Records in New Castle after 13 years of service. She was a member of Wimodausis, the Shenango Chapter No. 333 D.E.S, and the American Business Women's Association. Mildred was an avid Steelers fan and loved sports. She enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, theatre and working in her yard. She loved wintering in Scottsdale, Arizona.Mildred was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church where she had taught Sunday school. Survivors include two sons, Stephen J. Saros of Scottsdale, AZ and Douglas A. Saros with whom she shared her home; and five generations of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, James Hankee and one sister, Helen Baker. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Andrew Jillson will officiate. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.
