Minerva S. Rapp, of New Castle, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2015 following an extended illness. Minerva was born in New Castle to the late John and Mary Suciu on March 19, 1924. She was a member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church in New Castle. Minerva was a Registered Nurse and practiced at Jameson Hospital and performed private duty nursing in many homes in Lawrence County. She was a graduate of Slippery Rock University where she earned her bachelor's degree and teacher certification. She went on to teach Health Assistance and Practical Nursing at Lawrence County Vocational Technical School. She retired from teaching in 1988. Minerva's faith in God compelled her to volunteer her time to several organizations in New Castle. She was a Red Cross nurse and faithful blood donor. She served on the advisory board for Lawrence County Child Welfare. Minerva went on to serve on the Board of Directors for the Human Services Center where she received a "distinguished service award" for 25 years of service upon her retirement from their board in 2007. Minerva also volunteered her day time hours working for the food bank at the City Rescue Mission of New Castle. Minerva spent up to seven hours per day, 5 days per week at the food bank doing anything from answering the phone to packing bags of food and everything in between. God used Minerva to touch hundreds of lives in Lawrence County through her teaching, nursing, and volunteer work. Her sense of humor, compassion and "others first" approach to life made it easy to see that she was a Christian woman of God. Surviving at home is her husband of 69 years, Robert F. Rapp. They were married on November 17, 1945. In addition, she is survived by three adult children; Richard N. (Cheryl) Rapp, Thomas R. (Joan) Rapp, Rena M. (Carl Meyer) Probst, all of New Castle; and grandchildren, Marjorie Rapp, Emily (Sasha) Macedo, and Gretchen (Mathew) Meyer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, John Suciu and Victor Suciu, and her grandson, William J. "Willie" Quinn. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will take place on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Chris Weichman of Clen-Moore Church officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the City Rescue Mission, 319 S.
