Muriel Jean Mottern, 83, formerly of Roberts Lane, passed away the morning of September 9, 2012 at Golden Hill Nursing Home.Born November 3, 1928, in New Castle, she was a daughter of John Jay Dockman and Margaret Agnes Wise Dockman.She married Earl J. Mottern on July 11, 1952. He preceded her in death on December 6, 1992.Muriel graduated from New Castle High School in June, 1946. She was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper for Boyles Coal Company and the New Castle Country Club.She was a member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church.Muriel was an avid Steelers fan and enjoyed gardening. Her greatest passion was her grandchildren.She is survived by a daughter, Marsha Ray of Erie; a son, Alan S. Mottern of Erie; a sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Ernest Holmes of Citrus Heights, Calif; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne Ray; a grandson, Michael Benjamin Ray; her dear friends, Shirley and Jon Seymour and Linda Young. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Katy Lynn Ray and a half sister, Vivian Eddy.The family extends their deepest appreciation to Muriel's many friends who visited her often.Visitation will be held on Wednesday. September 12, 2012, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc, 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert Strobel will officiate.
