Obituary

Nancy D. McBurney passed away the early evening of March 22, 2026, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.

Born May 9, 1936, in New Castle, PA, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Mildred B. (Brigham) Ross.

She married her loving husband Desmond P. Austin in 1973 and resided in California until his passing in May of 2000. She subsequently returned home to her beloved New Castle where she married her high school sweetheart, Robert 'Craig' McBurney on Aug. 23, 2003. They were married for 14 wonderful years, until his passing in March of 2017.

Nancy was a proud graduate of the New Castle High School Class of 1954. She initially worked for the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. She later became an accomplished insurance broker and worked alongside her husband at their insurance agency, Parker Austin in Santa Monica, California, until her retirement. Nancy enjoyed golf, playing cards and dominoes and truly cherished her time spent with family. She volunteered as a classroom teacher's aide and as a member of the Friends of the New Castle Public Library.

Survivors include her nieces, Nancy (Robert) Natale, Joy Ross, Lisa (Don) Kirk; nephews, Todd C. Park, Mark Ross, Rhett (Shawnna) Ross, great-nieces, Amanda Natale, Nicole Judge (Nick), great-nephews, Tyler Park and Julian Ross, her stepchildren, Daniel P. Austin, Susan E. Austin, Jo Anne Austin, Edward C. (Elizabeth) McBurney, Yvonne (Pedro) McBurney-Videl; 3 step-grandchildren, Edward and Elena McBurney and Emily Austin; and one sister, Bonnie Park.

In addition to her parents and spouses, Nancy was preceded in death by her dear brother, Brady B. Ross, and her stepson, Greg Austin.

There will be a Celebration of Life gathering on Thurs. April 2nd from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

Burial will be alongside her husband Craig, at Graceland Cemetery.
