Obituary

Norma J. Faller Kline Smith, 91, of New Castle, passed away the morning of January 29, 2017 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Norma was born on October 11, 1925, in New Castle, to the late Louis J. and Helen M. Wynder Faller. She was married to her first husband Joseph W. Kline whom preceded her in passing on December 5, 1982. Norma was remarried to Edmond H. Smith on February 14, 1998. He survives at home. Mrs. Smith worked as the school nurse for the New Castle School District until her retirement. She was a graduate of New Castle High School and Jameson School of Nursing. Norma also served as a nursing Cadet, in Chicago, during WWII. In her younger days she loved playing tennis, traveling and swimming. Her later years were spent enjoying gardening, knitting, solving crossword puzzles. Through it all, she always proved victorious, whether it be in ping-pong or any other game she played, against her grandchildren. Norma was also a dedicated member of Wesley United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, Edmond, she is survived by her three daughters, Maureen Lynn Altman and husband Lester, Darlene Ann Singer and husband LeRoy, JoEllen L. Cucitrone and husband Ronald, all of New Castle; 3 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was preceded in passing by her parents and first husband, Joseph. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12-1 pm at Wesley United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 1:00 pm. Rev. William R. LaVelle, Jr. will officiate. Burial will take place in Oak Park Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be sent to Wesley United Methodist Church, 1204 West Washington St., New Castle, PA 16101.
