Opal Meryle Barker, 94, of 318 Rhodes Place, New Castle, died the afternoon of July 22, 2010 at her residence.Born July 29, 1915 in Washington, PA, she was a daughter of Donald and Mary McQuay Lander. She married Edwin Lewis Barker who preceded her in death on February 12, 1980.Mrs. Barker was a homemaker. She was a member of the Sunne Hanna Country Club and a volunteer at Jameson Hospital. She enjoyed playing in various bridge clubs and loved golf.She was a member of Westmont Presbyterian Church in Johnstown, PA.She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Jacqueline Schwartz of West Chester, PA (formerly of New Castle) and Carolyn B. and Craig Cooper of West Seneca, NY; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 25, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2010, at the funeral home. Rev. Donald Cook will officiate.
