Orpha E. Young, 94, of New Castle, passed away the morning of February 1, 2015 at her residence. Born February 14, 1920 in Ellwood City, she was a daughter of Samuel and Alice Hazen Scheidemantle. She was preceded in death in 1995 by her husband, Charles B. Young, whom she married July 3, 1937. Orpha was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and needlework. In her younger days she also enjoyed along roller skating, riding snowmobiles, and bowling. An active member of Castlewood Christian Missionary Alliance Church since 1938, she taught Sunday school, Bible school and the youth group. She is survived by two daughters, Pauline (David) McCandless and Linnea Young of New Castle; two sons, Thomas Young of New Castle and Charles (Sandra) Young of North Port, Fla; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, William Scheidemantle; three sisters, Olive Graham, Madeline Cavalier and Lola Kotuby; and four grandchildren, Julie Ann Young, David McCandless, Samuel Clements and baby boy Young. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 6:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and will be officated by Rev. James O'Hara. Burial will be in Harmony Baptist Cemetery.
