Paul Joseph
Canis, Sr.
Apr 15, 1938 — Oct 16, 2025
Paul Joseph Canis, Sr., age 87, of New Castle, passed away the early morning of Oct. 16, 2025, at his residence.
Born April 15, 1938, in Jamaica Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Herbert Brandner and Lucille (Achillo) Canis.
On June 2, 1962, Paul married the love of his life, Sylvia Anne Rigby. Mr. and Mrs. Canis were married for 63 wonderful years. Mrs. Canis survives.
Paul served faithfully in the United States Navy. He had a successful career in banking, where he worked as the Sr. Vice President of the overseas Military Bank Division. Paul retired in 2001, from Bank of America.
Paul loved to read and golf. Above his interests, Paul cherished the times he spent with his family. He was a faithful member of Christian Missionary Alliance Church and more recently, attended New Castle Bible Church. Paul loved serving in the church teaching Sunday school for over 45 years. He also held men's Bible studies, in his home, for several years after his retirement. Most of all, he had a deep faith that sustained him through many of life's challenges. Paul will always be remembered by those who knew him as the one who made a difference.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Paul Joseph Jr., Christopher Todd (Jacqueline) Canis, and Jonathan Blakely (Michele) Canis; one sister, Lucy Thornton; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Walter Canis, and daughter-in-law, Laura Anders Canis.
