Obituary

Paul E. Hartfelder, 96, of Decker Drive, passed away the morning of April 8, 2016 at Jameson Hospital. Born February 2, 1920 in New Castle, he was a son of Jacob and Amelia Jek Hartfelder, the foster son of C.S.W. Garver and Alma Jane Garver Glavan, and the step-son of Minna Scheffler. He was preceded in death on April 29, 2013 by his loving wife of 65 years, Edith E. Bodendorfer Hartfelder whom he married on April 17, 1948. A graduate of New Castle High School, Paul served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army. He was employed with Penn Power Company as a shift supervisor at the power plant. He held membership with the American Legion post #343, the Penn Power Men's Club, U.C.T. (United Commercial Travelers) and was a former member of the Toastmasters. Paul was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church where he served in various offices with the church council. Paul enjoyed fishing and bowled with many senior citizen bowling leagues. He also sang with the Eintracht Singing Society and the Maennerchor chorus. He is survived by one son, Gary A. Hartfelder and wife Judy of Palatine, IL; two daughters, Amelia A. Johnson and husband Bruce of Cumberland, MD, and Cheryl F. Pearson of Thousand Oaks, Calif; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, foster parents, step-mother, and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Hartfelder; one sister, Lottie Collins; one foster sister, Lucille Wesolowski; and six step-sisters. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place Sunday immediately following visitation at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Sean Walters of Christ Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church Mission Fund, 1302 E. Washington Street, New Castle, PA 16101.
