Paul R. Jones, age 83, of New Castle passed away the evening of December 27, 2016 at UPMC Jameson. Born in New Castle on April 21, 1933, he was a son of Raymond and Verna Jones. He married the former Shirley M. Sarbo on February 14, 1953. She survives him at home. A Korean War Veteran, he was discharged from the US Army as a corporal. Paul was a self employed truck driver for 50 years before he retired. After that he went to work for West Penn Printing in 2000, and retired from there in April 2015. He was involved with Transport for Christ and a member of the American Legion. As a member of Neshannock Presbyterian Church, he served as a trustee, elder, Sunday School superintendent and teacher, as well as a choir member. For several years Paul coached softball and baseball. An avid sports fan and Ford lover, he was also known for making hot dog chili and pizzelles. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Mike) Elliott of Bellevue, NE and Paula Thompson of New Castle; three grandchildren, Amber (Bryan) Shelar, Kathleen Elliott and Raelyn Thompson; and four great grandchildren, Trent, Gavin, Londyn and Drew Shelar. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Ann Jones; his parents; his stepmother, Ethel Jones; three sisters, Doris Jean Jones, Eleanor Coates and Leanne Wagner; and a brother, Charles Jones. Visitation will be from 3-6 on Friday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 6:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Randy Stringer of Neshannock Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
