Paul Malaniak, age 90, of New Wilmington, passed away the night of June 25, 2018 at Hampton Woods Nursing Center in Poland, Ohio. Born July 15, 1927 in New Wilmington, PA, he was the son of John and Katherine (Sarachman) Malaniak. He was preceded in death on June 28, 2017 by his wife of 66 years, June Ruth (Gettings) Malaniak, whom he married August 26, 1950. Mr. Malaniak served his country during WWII as a Navy Seabee on the carrier USS Cowpens. While stationed in Japan he witnessed the surrender and end of the war. He was employed with Wilson Excavating as an equipment operator until his retirement in 1992 and was a member of the Operating Engineers Union. Paul was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He is survived by two sons, Robert P. (Katy) Malaniak of Sharpsville, PA and Jeffery R. (Cathy) Malaniak of Poland, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Dain Malaniak and Taylor Malaniak. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Mick Malaniak and Steven Malaniak, and one sister, Olga Lowers. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11 am- 1 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at the funeral home with the Rev. John Yergan officiating. Burial will be in Fair Oaks Cemetery in New Wilmington.
