Paul W. "Dusty" Rhodes, 92, of the Overlook Medical Clinic, formerly of Mercer Road, passed away the morning of February 25, 2013 at Jameson Hospital.Born September 3, 1920, in New Castle, he was a son of Edward and Lulu Miles Rhodes.Preceding him in death was his wife of 53 years, Eleanor Saros Rhodes, whom he married June 1, 1946. Paul was a New Castle High School graduate. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 406 Anti-Aircraft in Africa, and with the 367 Engineer Combat Battalion in Europe. During that time he received five campaign stars. He was privileged to attend the opening of the World War II Memorial with his army unit. Paul was employed as a pressman with the New Castle News for over 40 years. He was a member of the American Legion #343 and a member of the Graphic Communications International Union for 25 years. Paul was a member of New Hope Wesleyan Church where he was a Sunday school superintendent and teacher, and a member of several church boards. He is survived by a daughter Sharon Clifton and her husband John of Las Vegas, NV; a son Paul D. Rhodes and his wife Marlene of Niles, OH; a brother Norman Rhodes and his wife Lyda of New Wilmington; five grandchildren, Todd (Karen) Kennedy, Susan (James) Thurman, Paul "Dusty" Rhodes, and Michelle (Matthew) Szparka, Jennifer (Robb) Clifton; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler Kennedy, David and Ellie Thurman. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Russell Rhodes, and one sister, Dorothy Oliphant. Visitation will be Thursday. February 28, 2013, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and Friday, March 1, 2013, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will follow visitation Friday at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Gary DeWitt will officiate. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.
