Paul L. Simpson, 78, of North Edinburg Rd., went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 13, 2010, with family by his side, at UPMC Horizon in Farrell, PA. Paul was born on January 17, 1932 in New Castle, PA to the late Francis P. and Edith Blair Simpson. He married the former Jean Marie Plotts on July, 11, 1998. She survives. Mr. Simpson was a purchasing agent for Associated Box Co. until his retirement in 1983. Paul was a 1949 graduate of New Castle High School and served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and taking rides to see elk and osprey. Mr. Simpson helped with the Moraine Preservation Project and banded osprey. Paul loved feeding the birds and birdwatching. Pymatuming was a favorite spot for eagle watching. He was passionate about his community and attended commissioners and township meetings on a regular basis. Mr. Simpson loved sports and was an avid Steeler fan. Paul was a member of New Wilmington Christian Missionary Alliance.In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by one daughter; Gail Simpson of New Castle; three stepdaughters and sons-in-law; Debbie and Gary Mancini, Sharon and Gerald Cascavilla, both of New Castle, Michele and Gary Hunt of Corry, PA; three sons; Rev. Gregg Simpson of Hickory, NC, Todd Simpson of Illinois, Brian Simpson of New Castle, one stepson, Randal D. Conti, Sr. of New Castle; one sister; Betty Downing of Washington, PA, 17 grandchildren and many great-granchildren.Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter-in-law, Cindy Simpson.Visitaion will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, from 5-9 p.m. and from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Gregg Simpson of First Baptist Church, Hickory, NC and The Rev. Paul Fink of New Wilmington CMA will officiate. Burial will be in Volant Cemetery.
