Peter A. Lombardo, 89, formerly of Scotland Lane, passed away the morning of August 24, 2015 at Lawrence County Geri Care. Born May 23, 1926 in New Castle, he was a son of Dr. James Lombardo and Mary Rainey Lombardo. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Helen Johnson Lombardo, whom he married July 6, 1946. A graduate of New Castle High School, he served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII in Japan. For 12 years, Pete was employed with William Bender Lumber Company until he became a sales agent with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company where he worked until retirement. An active member of First Assembly of God, Pete sang in the choir and played saxophone. He served on the Executive Board and was a Sunday school teacher for 43 years with the senior high group. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Ronald and Lora Lombardo of New Castle; one brother, James (Lorraine) Lombardo of New Castle; one sister, Viola (David) Freed of New Castle; two grandsons, Ryan Lombardo and Ronald J. (Rebecca) Lombardo; and one great-grandson, Roman Lombardo. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Anna Benigas, and one brother, Robert Lombardo. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at First Assembly of God, 2021 Pulaski Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Royal Family Kids Camp c/o First Assembly of God.
