Phyllis M. Evrard, 90, of Golden Hill Nursing Home, formerly of Harlansburg, passed away the evening of August 21, 2011 in Golden Hill, New Castle.Born February 7, 1921 in Curtisville, PA, she was a daughter of George and Effie Mae Lee Shallcross. She was married to John (Jack) L. Evrard. He preceded her in death on August 21, 2001.Phyllis was a gifted artist. She taught art courses for many years while living in Crafton/Pittsburgh, and then after moving to the New Castle area, spent many summers selling her paintings at the Lawrence County Fair. Besides her art work, Phyllis enjoyed time gardening.She was a member of Living Word Church in New Wilmington. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels.Survivors include her four children: Sarah Bailey, John and Mary Jane Evrard, Judith and Robert Brower, and David and Mary Ann Evrard; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a close family member, Charles Bailey.In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a baby daughter, Mary Elizabeth Evrard; two sisters, Jean and Eleanor Shallcross and one brother, Wilson Shallcross.Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2011, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA.A funeral service will be held at 11:00, immediately following the visitation. Rev. Rob Cypher of Living Word Church will officiate. Burial will be in Unity Baptist Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
