Rachel Elizabeth Solomon, of Parma Heights, Ohio died at home on June 30, 2014. She was born in New Castle on December 10, 1982, to Jonathan and Dr. Nanette Kaplan Solomon. Besides her parents, who reside in New Castle, PA, Rachel is survived by her brother, Ben Solomon, of New York, NY; her grandmother, Anne Baron Solomon, of Silver Spring, MD; her grandmother, Madeline Kaplan, of North Woodmere, NY; her uncle and aunt, Judge Daniel and Patricia Solomon of Silver Spring, MD; her aunt and uncle, Drs. Iris and Daniel Rosenthal of Jericho, NY; and her cousins Jessica Rosenthal, of New York, NY; and Michelle Rosenthal, of Atlanta, GA. Rachel is also survived by her companion, Sam Cercone, of Parma Heights, OH, and their cats, Christie and Newt.Rachel was an honors graduate of New Castle Senior High School, where she was a member of the band and school musicals. She also performed in a number of plays at the New Castle Playhouse and 7 years of the Nutcracker ballet. Rachel was a member of the Children's Festival Chorus based at Duquesne University and later served in the Junior Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh. She performed with the Pittsburgh Opera in Puccini's Turandot. Rachel studied voice at the Governor's School for the Arts. She sang in Welsh for a St. David's Day Gymanfa Ganu at Northminster Presbyterian Church. Rachel was also trained in piano, flute, piccolo and bass guitar. She studied photography at Ithaca College and graduated with a degree in English from Slippery Rock University. She pursued a Master's degree in creative writing at Chatham University, but was forced to leave the program due to illness.After relocating to the Cleveland area with her companion, Sam Cercone, Rachel continued to pursue photography and joined the Cleveland Skeptics.Her photography can be viewed at nevermindthecamera.com,society6.com/nevermindthecamera and redbubble.com/nevermindthecamera.Funeral services will be conducted at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA, on July 3 at 11:00 A.M., following visiting hours that begin there at 9:00 A.M.
