Ralph Mooney, Jr., 98, of 112 Nesbitt Road, New Castle, passed away the afternoon of August 2, 2014 at Golden Hill Nursing Home.Born February 26, 1916 in New Castle, he was a son of Ralph Mooney, Sr. and Anna Costello Mooney.Ralph was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Virginia Roberts Mooney, on January 23, 1966.Surviving at home is his loving wife of 47 years, Dorothy Seymour Mooney, whom he married April 15, 1967.After attending Shenango High School, Ralph served with the Army Corps of Engineers during WWII in the Southwest Pacific as a Second Lieutenant.Ralph enjoyed working at his business, and was the co-owner of Mooney Brothers Trucking and Supply Company.In addition to reading, he enjoyed participating in several activities at First Baptist Church where he served as a former deacon and trustee. He was also a member of the building committee and taught the teen boys Sunday school class for over 17 years.He is survived by his two daughters, Elaine (Geoff) Miodowski of Brighton MI, and Sheila Lin (Brian) Lloyd of Edinburg, VA; three sons, Gordon (Lois) Mooney and Kevin David Mooney of New Castle, and Douglas Mooney of Oklahoma City, OK; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.In addition to his first wife Mary Virginia, he was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Clara Bailey, Laura Woods, Betty Mooney, Jennie Phillips, and Josephine Sacripant; and 5 brothers, Samuel, Paul, Gerald, William and Louis Mooney.Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, with a military service by the New Castle Area Honor Guard at 5:00.A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 984 W. Maitland Lane, New Castle. Rev. John Yergan and Rev. Mike Wells will officiate.Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 984 W.
