Ralph E. Shaffer Sr., 83, of 22 W. Clen-Moore Blvd, New Castle, PA. passed away the evening of June 30, 2012 at the Jameson Care Center in New Castle.He was born on July 27, 1928 to William and Catherine Chesney Shaffer in Princeton, PA. He married the former Agnes Vannatten on December 31, 1948, she survives. Mr. Shaffer was a Korean veteran serving with the Navy for five years. He was the founder of American Tool and Machine, his two sons continue that business. He lived in Florida for 15 years after retiring. He returned to New Castle in February 2010. He loved fishing. Mr. Shaffer was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.Besides his wife, survivors include: a daughter Sheryl E. Welsh and husband Robert of Chandler, AZ.; two sons: Ralph E. Shaffer Jr. and his wife Kathy and Mark Shaffer and the late Stephanie L. Shaffer all of New Castle; a brother, Earl Shaffer of Tybee Island, FL. and a sister, Roseanne Dunkerly of Coral Springs FL.; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, William, James and David Shaffer; a daughter-in-law, Stephanie L. Shaffer; and a great grandchild, George Henry Tervo.Visitation will be Monday, July 2, 2012, from 5-8 p.m. and Tuesday, July 3, 2012, from 10-11 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA.Funeral services for Mr Shaffer will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be The Rev. Kenneth Meyer of First Assembly of God Church.Military Rites will be preformed by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
