Ralph E."Ziggy" Ziegler, 93, of 106 Worthington Ave. passed away the afternoon of Oct. 31, 2011 at Jameson Hospital North.Born April 3, 1918, he was the son of Howard E. and Ivy Black Ziegler. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy M. Eakin on Nov. 13, 1937. She passed away March 2, 1999. Ralph graduated from New Castle High School and New Castle Business College. He retired in 1988 after working for 45 years at Lockley Machine as a machine shop superintendent. During those 45 years he worked in Danville, VA as a plant manager for three years from 1974-1977. Ralph enjoyed visiting Williamsburg, VA every year with his wife. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed watching sports on television and was a former member of the New Castle Toastmasters Club. He was very proud of his four grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Every day after reading the paper, Ralph cut out clippings about local residents, laminated the articles, and sent them to those individuals. Ralph was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and had been a member of the former Second Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder and treasurer.Ralph is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Louis Palumbo of New Castle; a son, Richard E. Ziegler of Champaign, IL; four grandchildren, Todd L. Palumbo and his wife, Ann Marie, Dr. Kelly A. Palumbo and her husband Michael Sopko, Michelle D. Conti and Melissa D. Palumbo; and 10 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a sister, Hazel Johnson.Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
