On Saturday, December 26, 2020, Raymond Lee Karns went home to be with his Lord and Savior. A devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Godfather, and Parishioner; "Ray" was beloved by many and will be greatly missed. His quiet, honest demeanor and comforting, wise words will be missed around the table at family gatherings. He was born on September 28, 1942 to Harry and Francis (Greer) Karns of New Castle. Ray was always a hard worker as he and his brother, Ed, would hone their natural mechanical abilities as they worked on various stages of building homes with their father. An accomplished carpenter, there wasn't much that Ray couldn't fix or create. He was a proud alum of Shenango School District. He married the love of his life, Judy (Houk), on September 25, 1965. He and Judy would routinely cheer on their Grandkids and Goddaughters at various sporting events. He enjoyed traveling to NASCAR races and hunting with his son, Scott. Together, he and Judy, made many memories traveling to the beach with extended family. Ray was a faithful member of First Alliance Church, serving many years as a Building Trustee. Working side-by-side with other men from the church, they would spend hours each week dedicated to caring for the building in order for the church to complete its mission of ministering to the community. He worked for several years as a maintenance technician at City Welding, Penn Power in West Pittsburg, and eventually retired from Penn Power, after 30 years. The wounds of the loss are significant when someone that has touched you so deeply is abruptly torn away. We do not worry for him as he is no longer in pain; no longer suffering; no longer battling the effects of age and illness. We will mourn his loss but be comforted by the memories that we hold so dear. We choose to celebrate his life that was well spent and the legacy of kindness that he has left behind in each of us. His soul is where it belongs, in the presence of God in the company of Saints. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Betty. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; son Scott and his wife, Jodi Karns, their three children, Chellsie, Sydney, and Landon; his sister-in-law Laurie and Robert DiGia; four nieces, Sharon and Brad Jacobs, Sue and Steve Slack, Sallie and Carl Hahn, and Lindsey and Michael Vatter; his Goddaughters, Allyson (fiancé Marc), Allyssa, Allayna, and Alliya Allwine; his adored dog, Jake; and a multitude of close family and friends. Due to the Covid -19 health crisis effecting our community, visitation and services will be private, for the family. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the R.
