Raymond Jack Kirkwood, Jr., went to be with the Lord on April 24, 2025, surrounded by many family members.
Born May 13, 1925, in Lawrence County, son of the late Raymond J. Kirkwood and Violet Virginia (Sarah) Harding.
Raymond, a loving son, husband, and father is survived by his wife Nancy Ray Kirkwood to who he was married on Feb. 14, 1975. Also surviving is his daughter Cheryl Kirkwood, a stepson, Mark E. Dewberry, three stepdaughters, Jan (Thomas) Ryhal of Beaver Co., Cynthia Perrino of Charlotte, NC and Lisa Rossey of Manhattan, IL, one sister and brother-in-law, Roxanne (Wiliam) Beals, and sister-in-law, Peggy Kirkwood. Six grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and five great great-grandchildren. Also, 7 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, David L. and Raymond J. III, parents, sisters, Margery Dean, and Norma Reamer, and brothers Delbert and Ronald Kirkwood, and step-son-in-law, John Rossey.
Ray loved working with wood and had made many items for family members. He loved to draw and paint pictures. Ray worked at C. Fassinger and Sons as a tool and die maker for 50 years, retiring in 1992. He attended Union High School. He served in the United State Army during World War II. He was a member of Church of Genesis, where he ushered for many years, and enjoyed going to services and also seeing many friends. He was also a member of Challenges and the VFW. He loved golfing, playing ball and bowling.
Visitation will be held on Mon. April 28th from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 3:00 PM, at the funeral home, with Rev. Damian Williams, of Church of Genesis, officiating.
Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
