Raymond W. McCracken, 85, of 2905 Harlansburg Road, passed away the morning of May 27, 2011 at Golden Hill Nursing Home.Born June 6, 1925 in New Castle, he was a son of Milton W. and Martha Pearl Kildoo McCracken. He married Mary Magee Yohe on March 21, 1955. She survives.He was a 1942 graduate of Scott Township High School and a graduate of New Castle Business College. He served in the 5th Marine Division in the 5th Pioneer Battalion as a Corporal during WWII. He received the purple heart after being wounded in action against the enemy at Iwojima.Ray retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier in 1983 after 33 years of employment. He also worked for four years as a clerk for the Butler VA Hospital.He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Disabled American Veterans.He enjoyed studying the Bible and was a member of Unity Baptist church where he sang in the choir and played the saxaphone.In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert W. McCracken of Houston, TX and Gerald Milton McCracken of New Castle; one step-daughter, Rose M. Rose of Everett, PA; one sister, Ethel McClymonds of New Castle; seven grandchildren; and several great and great-great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gaylord McCracken and two sisters, Mildred Raabe and Gladys Miles.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at 11:00 at the funeral home. Rev. Gerald Caskey will officiate. Military Rites will be conducted by the New Castle Area Honor Guard. Burial will be in Neshannock Presbyterian Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the City Rescue Mission, 319 S.
