Raymond M. Newman, 94, of Brightwater Senior Living Community, Myrtle Beach, SC, formerly of Baldwin Road, New Castle, passed away March 4, 2012 at his residence.Born January 31, 1918 in New Castle, PA, he was a son of Harry W. Newman and Ethel Newman Bintrim.He was married to Sarah "Sally" L. Lawton Newman who preceded him in death on August 27, 2010.He was a graduate of Eastbrook High School, where he played basketball.Raymond served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII with the Sea Bee's as a Carpenter's Mate 2nd Class. While in the service he was stationed in New Guinea.He retired at age 63 from the Carpenters Union Local 268, formerly Local 206 where he had been a lifelong carpenter.Ray was a member of the New Castle Chapter of Sons of the American Revlolution. He was also a member of Castlewood Rod and Gun Club and liked hunting, fishing and boating. He and Sally enjoyed squared dancing for several years with Castle Paws and Taws.He was a member of Third Presbyterian Church.Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Merilynn and Jack Sell of Myrtle Beach, SC; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Raymond and Patty Newman of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Linda Sell, Dan Sell and his wife Amy; and two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Charlotte.A memorial service will be held in New Castle in June.In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Harry Newman, and two sisters, Ruth Wilson and Cora Mae Lutton.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Third Presbyterian Church, 1315 E.
