Obituary

It is with sadness because of the loss, but also joy because of the promise of the resurrection, that the family and friends of the Rev. Edwin E. "Ed" McElroy relate his passing on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Ed was born on April 25, 1944 to James McElroy and Mary (Kaylor) McElroy McElravy in Karns City, PA (deceased). Ed was married to Doris Walter in 1984. She preceded him in death in 2004. Ed was a graduate of Karns City High School, Slippery Rock State College and the Methodist Theological Seminary in Ohio. Although Ed was employed in several different areas, his greatest joy was serving as a pastor in The United Methodist Church. Ed was licensed to preach in 1971, Supply Pastor United Methodist Western Pennsylvania Conference in 1970, ordained as a Deacon in 1976, and as an Elder in 1979. Ed served the Trinity Yoke Parish (Barkeyville/Hebron/Wesley), Jackson Center Charge (Vincent/Schofield/Hendersonville/Millbrook), the Redstone Charge (Little Redstone/Newell/Star Junction), the Economy UMC, the United Methodist Center, Warren First Salem, and Emporium First. Ed also was the Arrangements Coordinator for the Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church for 25+ years. During this time, he built a strong team of dedicated volunteers to assist in hosting the 1,800+ conference members and guests meeting at Grove City College. Ed is survived by Emma Walter (a sister-in-law), Debi (Walter) & Terry Barr (a niece), Sharone Walter (a niece), Sondra & Stephen Barr (great niece and nephew), and Rev. Mark Goswick ( a pseudo brother) Friends will be received from 12:00 until 2:00 on Saturday, October 19 at the Savannah United Methodist Church. A Service of Death and Resurrection will follow at 2:00. Rev. Mark Goswick will officiate.
