Richard "Larry" Book, 75, of State Road, New Castle, passed away the afternoon of April 7, 2010 at UPMC - Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.Born April 12, 1934, he was the son of James "Russell" and Wanda Quigley Book. He married Margery Hanna Book on Oct. 15, 1955. She survives. Larry graduated from East Brook High School and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a machinist at Rockwell Axel Division retiring in 1993 after 27 years of service. Larry was member of East Brook Presbyterian Church. He collected Department 56 houses, refinished and restored antiques and glassware, and enjoyed working around the house. Larry was a member of the American Legion in New Castle, the Marine Corps League, and the Hickory Volunteer Fire Department.In addition to his wife, survivors include a daugther and son-in-law, Diane L. and James McMichael of New Castle; three sons and two daughters-in law, David W. and Janet Book of Wampum, Leonard R. Book of Dillsburg, Pa., and John T. and Stacy Book of New Castle; and nine grandchildren, Amanda Book, Ty Book, Jessica Book, Cody Book, Jamie McMichael, Christina McMichael, Jordan Book, Tori Book, and John Book.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Book; and a infant child, Robert Book.Visitation is 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010, at the funeral home. The Rev. Jascon Schepp will officiate.
