Obituary

Richard C. "Dick" Book, 62, of 2690 Harlansburg Road, went to be with his Lord the evening of November 6, 2013 at UPMC Shadyside after a courageous battle with cancer. Born April 1, 1951 in New Castle, he was a son of Robert S. and Dorothy M. Paden Book. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joanne Molin Book, whom he married October 16, 1971. He was a 1969 graduate of Neshannock High School. Dick was employed with Natural Sand Company in Slippery Rock as an equipment operator for 15 years. Prior, he worked at Kerry Coal Company in Wampum for many years. In addition to hunting and the outdoors, Dick enjoyed golfing with his sons and loved the time spent with his grandsons. Dick was known to always enjoy a good meal. An active member of New Hope Wesleyan Church, he was a former board member and usher. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Nathan C. and Danielle Book of Butler, and Matthew R. and Shannon Book of Beaver; two sisters, Ruth Ann Mullen of Cooperstown, Pa., and Jeannie Ward of New Wilmington, Pa; and two grandsons, Keagan Book and Isaac Book. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Daniel "Buzz" Book. Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, Nov 9, 2013, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev. Gary DeWitt. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
