Richard C. Harris, Sr., 73, of Slippery Rock, passed away on September 17, 2015 at Allegheny General Hospital, in Pittsburgh.
Richard was born on February 27, 1942, in New Castle, to the late Chester and Evelyn Wynder Harris. He married the former Linda Simpson on April 14, 1961. She survives.
Mr. Harris work for Lockley Manufacturing , as a driver, for 30+ years. He retired from Penn Dot, where he was an operator, in 2003. Richard was the former president of the Steelworkers Union at Lockley Manufacturing. Mr. Harris was a former member of the Christian Motorcyclist Association, where he performer ministry work in many places, including the Lawrence County Fair, for over 10 years. He also participated in the prison ministries. Richard was a member of ABATE, blessing of the bikes and wounded warriors benefit. Mr. Harris was an active motorcycle rider who enjoyed traveling on his bike and motorcycle restoration. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, participating as the church van driver and an active attendee of New Life Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife Linda, Richard is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard C. Harris, Jr. and Julie of Maryland, Robert K. Harris and Janet of Pulaski; one brother and sister-in-law, Bernard W. Harris and Mary Carol of Illinois; one sister and her fianc, Elayne Weisz and Ed Kimbrough of Sharon, PA; 3 grandchildren, April, Rhys, and Owyn and one great grandson, Derek.
Mr. Harris was preceded in passing by his parents, one sister, Carole Harris and one daughter, Sheryl E. Harris.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3-7 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Wilmington Rd.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Re. Ronald Nagle and Rev. John Yergan will officiate.
