Richard D. Marttala, age 61, of Old Princeton Road, New Castle, passed away the afternoon of September 30, 2015 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born June 30, 1954 in New Castle, he was a son of Donald O. and Ilma M. Kukkola Marttala. A graduate of Shenango High School and Penn State, he received his Master's Degree from the University of New Hampshire. Richard was employed as an Environmental Chemist for the State of Pennsylvania. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Jeffrey W. and Janet Marttala of Beaverton, Oregon; two nieces, Vanessa and Courtney Marttala; one great-niece, Aurora Scavo; and one great-nephew, Elijah Scavo. He was preceded in death by his father in 2005 and his mother earlier this year. In keeping with Richard's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2323 Old Butler Road, New Castle. Rev. Peggy Suhr-Barkley will be officiating. Burial will be in Castle View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard's name to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the R.
