Richard Glenn Mayberry, age 82, of Bryan Street, New Castle, passed away suddenly the afternoon of June 10, 2016 at his home. Born November 18, 1933 in "Peanut Quarry" Hillsville, Pa., he was a son of Thomas R. and Wylda Marie Boyd Mayberry. Surviving at home is his loving wife of 63 years, Alice "JoAnne" Carter Mayberry, whom he married on June 14, 1952. After his education at Edinburg Elementary School, he graduated from Union High School in 1951. He attended New Castle Business College taking night courses. Richard was employed with Sharon Steel for 33 years as an expeditor until his retirement in 1983. During that time he was also a part owner of Tire Town in New Castle. He continued to work as a bookkeeper for Moresky and Sons for another 22 years, retiring in 2005. Richard was active with the Lawrence County Historical Society where he served as a former treasurer. He was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 720 of Mt. Jackson and was the Office and Technical Workers Union President at Sharon Steel. Among his many interests, he enjoyed genealogy, history, old cars and loved working outside. A member of Wesley Methodist Church, Richard served as a trustee and was active in many church functions. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Dianne (David) Hohl of Buffalo, NY, and Susan (Thomas) Tobin of Franklinville, NJ; two sons, Richard G. Mayberry, II of York, PA, and Keith L. (Amy) Mayberry of Jacksonville, NC; one sister, Mary Lou Commesso of Edinburg, PA; 12 grandchildren; and 1 great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Thomas Mayberry; and a half-sister, Maxine Boyd. In keeping with Richard's requests, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will take place on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at Wesley Methodist Church, 1204 W. Washington Street, New Castle with the Rev. Thom Scott officiating. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Methodist Church. Arrangements are being handled by the R.
