Richard L. Ward, Sr., age 96, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of Sept. 18, 2022, at Rhodes Estates.

Born June 4, 1926, in New Castle, PA, he was the son of the late Harold L. and Mabel (Knight) Ward.

He married his beloved wife, of 76 years, Eleanor M. (Altman) Ward. She survives.

Richard was a member of the United States Navy, faithfully serving his country, in World War II. He was employed by Shenango China as a decorator. He loved wood working and making bird houses. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and especially looked forward to traveling to Canada every year, to do so. He was a member of First Church of God where he was very involved in various church ministries and activities.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by two sons, Richard L. (Martha) Ward, Jr. of Volant, PA, and Russell (Lynda) Ward of New Castle, PA; three grandchildren, Adam (Kristin) Ward, Rusty Ward and Jaime Lowther; two great grandchildren, Samantha Ward and Abby Lowther.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Ward, two sisters, June Altman and Shirley Pitzer.

In keeping with his wishes, a private service will be held for family members.

Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
