Richard A. Wilkison, 89, of 3239 Greentree Circle, New Castle, passed away the night of June 2, 2012 at Edison Manor.He was a native of New Castle born on August 19, 1922 to Joseph and Margaret Jones Wilkison. He is survived by his wife, the former Jeanne Swogger, whom he married on January 30, 1947.He was a graduate of Tri-State University in Angola, IN. He is an army veteran of World War II where he served overseas in China with an American Laison Team assigned to a Chinese Army. He was awarded a War Memorial Medal from the Republic of China and the China Campaign Medal with three bronze stars.Mr. Wilkison spent most of his working life in the petroleum industry in sales management at various locations in the mid-western states and retired after 32 years with Union Oil Company of California.At various times he belonged to Toastmasters Club, Kiwanis, and the Petroleum Clubs in Detroit and Chicago. He was also a village trustee and a member of the zoning board in the Village of Sleepy Hollow, Ill. He served on the petroleum distribution education board at Western Michigan University.He was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and a member of the Scottish Rite in New Castle.In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Joe Wilkison of Asheville, NC; one sister, Peggy Spence; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Wilkison; and two sisters, Marian Walters and Ruth Mazur.Visitation will be on Thursday, June 7, 2012, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A memorial service will be held immediately following visitation Thursday, June 7, 2012, at 1:00 at the funeral home. The Rev. Andrew Jillson will officiate.
