Robert G. Alex, 73, of 3208 Sawgrass Road, Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away the morning of November 25, 2011 at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City.Born April 12, 1938 in New Castle, PA, he was a son of Louis and Grace A. Palmer Alex. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary LaVerne Jackson on January 19, 1957. She survives at their home in Edmond.He was a 1956 graduate of New Castle High School and attended Youngstown State University. He started working at Castle Brand Meats in New Castle and continued in the meat packing industry until his retirement in 2003 as Vice President of Operations with Tyson Industries. Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman which began at the early age of 12. He never lost his passion for the sports. He also enjoyed woodworking and was a Mason.In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Dr. Bradford Alex and wife Stella of Porter Ranch, CA, Gregory Alex and wife Patti of Kearney, MO, and R. Scott Alex and wife Lisa of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Kristin Alex-Davies and husband Mark of Edmond, OK; two sisters, Yvonne Elardo-Pears and husband Lee of New Castle, and Eunice Alex-Davis and husband Ronald of Pleasanton, CA; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA.A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Kenneth Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
