Robert W. Cartwright, 92, of Pulaski, PA, passed away the morning of September 5, 2012 at Jameson Care Center in New Castle.Born October 10, 1919, in New Castle, he was a son of Enos and Margaret Lewis Cartwright.He married the former Eleanor M. Shoaff on May 1, 1954. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2001.He was a graduate of New Castle High School. Robert served in the U.S. Air Force in both World War II and the Korean War, obtaining the highest rank of Staff Sergeant. He completed pilot training, and, while stationed in Guam, was an airplane mechanic, working on B29's.He worked as a machinist for United Engineering and Mesta Machine where he retired.Among his many interests, Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and gardening.He attended Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church.He is survived by one son, Russell J. Cartwright of West Middlesex; two daughters and their husbands, Nancy Ann and Craig W. Byers of Pulaski and Karen Lynn and Richard Caldwell of Matamoras, PA; five grandchildren, Travis R., Katie and Elizabeth Caldwell and Cassie and Brady Byers and several nieces and one nephew.In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Redman and Ruth Cartwright; and four brothers, Russell, Lewis, William and Gordan Cartrwight.Visitation will be held on Saturday evening, September 8, 2012, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305, or the American Diabetes Association, 100 W.
