Robert (Bo) Casalandra, 72, of Neshannock Township went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family the afternoon of Nov. 14, 2012 at UPMC Shadyside.Born Jan 17, 1940 at Jameson Hospital in New Castle, he was the son of Nicholas R. and Carolyn M. Micco Casalandra.Bob married the former Judy L. Cunningham in 1962.He graduated from New Castle High School in 1957. He then attended Youngstown State University and received a B.A. degree from Grove City College in 1962, then a Master of Education from Westminster College in 1966.Bob retired from Shenango Senior High School in 1997 after 35 years of teaching. He was the head football coach at Benjamin Franklin Junior High School and the assistant football coach Shenango High School.While at Grove City College he lettered four years in football and track and captained both the football and track teams. He was named to the University of Akron's All Opponent Team as a freshman, received honorable mention Small College All-American, and was named to Pennsylvania's All State Team his senior year. Bob was also named to various all star conference teams during his football career. He was the recipient of the Jim Cross Memorial Trophy for outstanding play. He led the nation in scoring for tackles and received invitations for try out for Winnipeg Bombers and Montreal Allouettes in the Canadian Football League and from the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL. In 2012 Bob was inducted into the Grove City College Athletic Hall of Fame.Bob was a member of Shenango Presbyterian Church and formerly a member of Second Presbyterian Church. He served as an elder at both churches.He was a member of the New Castle Wolves Club Den. He enjoyed golf, cards, and his children and grandchildren.In addition to his wife, Judy, Bob is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kay Lynn and Bill Brown, Leanne and Ted Memo; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Todd and Tammy Bulisco Casalandra, all of New Castle; two brothers, John P. Casalandra of Hubbard, OH and Lewis A. Casalandra of Granite Fall, NC ; and six grandchildren Josh Brown, Cassandra Brown Davies and husband, Asa, Gianna and Danielle Memo, and Nina and Ella Casalandra.Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Amy Na will officiate.Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery.
