Robert Christian Dietterle, 88, of Wampum, formerly of McCarty Lane, New Castle, passed away the morning of Jan. 24, 2010, in Katera's Kove, Wampum.Born Aug. 31, 1931, in New Castle, he was the son of Andrew C. and Bertha Hartman Dietterle.He married Leah M. Kerr on Aug. 23, 1947. She preceded him in death March 28, 2007.Robert was a graduate of Wilmington Area High School and attended Tri-State College in Angola, Ind.He served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during World War II.Robert was president of Dietterle and Van Dusen Construction Company. He had also directed the New Castle Lumber & Supply Company as a lumber dealer and contractor.He was a former member of the American Legion and the Elks Club. He was president of the Lawrence County Lumber Dealers Association and the Western Pennsylvania Lumber Dealers Association.Robert was a member of First United Methodist Church and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.Survivors include two sons, Andrew C. Dietterle of Darien, Conn, and Todd P. Dietterle of Frankfort, Ill.; two sisters, Lillian Woodworth and Anna Mae Griffiths, both of New Wilmington; eight grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth White.The Dietterle family will be receiving visitors from 11 to 12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A public memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, P.
