Robert W. Handlos, Sr., 82, formerly of Ridgewood Court and Links Drive, passed away Wednesday, October 9th, 2013 at Avalon Nursing Center. Born June 23, 1931 in Pittsburgh, Pa., Bob was the son of the late William and Mabel (Enscoe) Handlos, growing up on their farm in Portersville. Bob graduated from Muddy Creek Township High School in 1949. He was an Airman First Class, serving as a weather observer in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954, stationed in the United States and Europe. He married Evelyn (Wheale) of New Castle in 1956. He worked at the Penn Power plant in West Pittsburgh for 33 years until retirement. Bob enjoyed painting, photography and baseball. Bob will be remembered by his artwork, and for his love of teaching and coaching baseball, especially with his sons. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn and his brother, John Tim Handlos. He is survived by two sons; Robert Jr. (Julie) of Ohio, and Steven (Joannie) of New Castle; three grandchildren, Jessica, Katelyn and Daniel; and a niece. There are no calling hours and a private memorial service will be conducted by the family.Burial was in Castle View Cemetery. Arrangements are by the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc.
