Robert E. Hutsler, Sr., 87, of Mercer Street, New Castle, passed away the morning of March 7, 2014.Born September 8, 1926 in Volant, PA, he was a son of Albert Perry Hutsler and Bertha M. Bell Hutsler.Bob was recently preceded in death on January 2, 2014 by his beloved wife of 67 years, Marjorie L. Stewart Hutsler, whom he married November 9, 1946.He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific as a seaman first class.Bob was employed for 30 years with LTV Steel, retiring in 1980 as a craneman.A member of the former First Christian Church, he served as a deacon.Among his many interests, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an avid bowler. He was a member of the VFW 315.He is survived by a daughter, Linda Mae Authier of Clarks Mills, PA; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. Jr. and Clare Hutsler of New Castle; 2 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents and his wife Marjorie, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and Fred Hutsler; and three sisters, Elsie Carr, Margaret Pettit, and Bessie McConahy.Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2014, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A service will take place on Monday, March 10, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev. John Yergan.A military service will be performed by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
