Robert C. Mattern, 70, of 1192 Vosler Road, Volant, passed away the morning of April 2, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospice House in Wexford.Born February 13, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a son of Clarence and Mary Atamanec Mattern.He is survived by his first wife, Janet Flament Mattern whom he married in 1965.He subsequently married the former Jacqueline V. Lorence on September 25, 2004. She preceded him in death April 22, 2010.He attended Ohio University and served in the U.S. Marines as a sharpshooter.Bob was employed as a manufacturers representative for industrial products and later with Billco Motors.He enjoyed cooking all of his life and sharing the food with others. Bob was active and athletic and enjoyed playing football for his high school. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church where he was active with the Awana group. He also managed Unity Baptist Cemetery.He is survived by a daughter, Tami LaGattuta of Cleveland, Ohio; a son, Mark Mattern of Jacksonville, Fl and California; a step-son, Darryl Lawther of Volant, PA; a sister, Jane Pillar of Gibsonia, PA; two grandchildren, Sterling Mattern and Gabriel Mattern of Florida; and several loving nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his parents and his second wife, Jacqueline.Visitation will be held Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church, 304 Old Route 19, New Castle.A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 12:00 p.m. at the church. Military Rites will be given by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.Rev. Zach Dudenhofer and Rev. Gerald Caskey will officiate.
