Obituary

Robert P. McClymonds, 89, of Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care, New Wilmington, formerly of New Castle, passed away the morning of August 30, 2016 at UPMC Jameson. Born on February 10, 1927 in Rose Point, PA, he was a son of J. Audley and B. Hazel Flack McClymonds. He was married to the former Lois Jean Henks, who preceded him in death in 1982. He then married Betty Long McClymonds on October 22, 1982. She passed away on October 25, 2014. After graduating from Princeton High School, he served his country during World War II with the US Army. He was part of the military police and spent time in Italy. Mr. McClymonds was employed at the Ford garage on Croton Avenue for twenty years and then at the Rockwell International in the axle plant for twenty-three years. After retiring he lived in Florida for seventeen years until he moved back to New Castle in 2005. For thirty-five years he was a member of Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department and served as the chief for seven years. He was a member of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed golfing, square dancing, camping, boating and riding motorcycles. Surviving him are two step-daughters, Brenda (Jerry) Ward of Greenville, PA and Bonnie (Don) Lambert of Poland, OH; one step-son, William (Sharon) Long of Austintown, OH; two nephews, David (Marcy) McClymonds and William (Jessie) McClymonds of New Castle; two nieces, Alice Rubright of Harmony, PA and Saundra (Charles) Seinkner of New Castle; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Besides his parents and both wives, Robert is preceded in death by one step daughter, Beverly Long McCartney; and two brothers, Weller and Clair McClymonds. Visitation will be Thursday from 3-6 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be at 6:00 on Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Votaw officiating. A military service will be conducted by the New Castle Area Honor Guard. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to the Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department, 2424 E.
