Robert T. McConnell, 88, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of October 15, 2012 at Jameson Hospital North.Born Dec. 9, 1923, in New Castle, he was the son of Calvin J. and Margaret J. Patterson McConnell.Robert married Margery Howe McConnell on Sept. 8, 1951. She survives.He graduated from New Castle High School in Jan. 1942 and was class vice president. In 1948 he graduated from Robert Morris College.Robert served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a sergeant in the European Theatre.A controller at NEPCO, he retired in 1987. He had also been the treasurer at Beaver Advance Corp. in Ellwood City.He was a member of New Castle Rotary Club, a former member of Ellwood City Rotary, member and past Master of Mahoning New Castle Masonic Lodge #243, member of New Castle Consistory and a volunteer driver for Meals On Wheels.Robert was a member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church where he was president of the Irvine Bible Class, past president of Prime Timers, and a former deacon, elder and trustee.In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Syd McCrorey of Horseheads, NY, and Carol and John Caparoula of New Castle; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel R. and Darla McConnell of Corsica, PA; six grandchildren; and one great grandson.He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eleanor Richards; and a brother, Kenneth E. McConnell.Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, from 5-8 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A Masonic service will be held at 7:45 p.m.Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at the funeral home. The Rev. Chris Weichman will officiate.
