Robert G. Murdock, 87, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of June 9, 2010 at Jameson Hospital North.Born January 27, 1923 in New Castle, he was the son of John and Gwenne Gibbon Murdock. He married Peggy Adlington on November 18, 1944. Robert was a 1941 graduate of New Castle High School. A veteran of WWII, he served in the Army Air Corps, 9th Air Corps in France and England, where he met his wife. Robert was employed at Rockwell International from 1948 through 1984 as a pipe fitter in the maintenance department. He was a faithful volunteer for Habitat for Humanity as well as Meals on Wheels. Robert was a Red Cross blood donor, donating over 100 pints of blood. He loved gardening and being outdoors. Robert was a Mason and member of Lodge of the Craft/Westminster. He was a member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church.In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law; Cathy Lavoie of Waldorf, MD, Peggy Ann and Dana Ruck of Reynoldsburg, OH; one son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Karen Murdock of Chino Hills, CA; a brother-in-law, Ernest Adlington of Sheffield, England; a niece, Carol Denton of Sheffield, England; five grandchildren, Michelle Matttson, Aimee Lavoie, Wendy Hamer, Travis Ruck and Angela Mettler; six great-grandchildren, Hannah Mattson, Nathan Mattson, Sophia Hamer, Nolan Hamer, Gabriel Krumholz and Kierra Ruck.He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack Murdock; one sister, Ida Hammond.Visitation is 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010, at the funeral home. The Rev. Chris Weichman of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church will officiate.
