Robert J. Palmer, age 84, of Union Township, passed away the afternoon of Thursday, December 29, 2022, at his residence.

Born September 8, 1938, in Indiana, PA, he was the son of Robert H. and Mary Louise (Markley) Palmer who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol (Welsh) Palmer, whom he married August 4, 1962.

A 1956 graduate of New Castle High School, Bob served in the Army Reserves.

He was employed as a supervisor with several steel businesses including Select Steel, National Steel and Turner Steel until his retirement. He then became a bus driver with the Union Area School District where he also was a golf coach.

Bob was an avid golfer and enjoyed camping. Most important was the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church on Decker Drive.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert J. Palmer, Jr. and wife Amanda of Texas and Brad A. Palmer, Sr. and wife Melissa of New Castle; five grandchildren, Hannah Davis, Brad Palmer, Jr., Nicholas Palmer, Caroline Palmer and James Glidden; and four great-grandchildren, Bailey and Brynn Davis and Jayden and Mason Glidden.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 3, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 7:00 at the funeral home with Rev. William LaVelle, Jr. officiating.
