Robert Edward (Bob) Patterson, 83, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, January 15 in Crown Point, IN. Born April 6, 1930 in New Castle, Bob was the son of the late Byron and Louise Patterson.He grew up in Eastbrook, PA and graduated from Eastbrook H.S. in 1948. In January 1952, Mr. Patterson began service with the US Army, completing a tour of duty in Korea. He was honorably discharged from active duty in December, 1953.In 1954, Bob married Delores Holler. They lived primarily in New Castle until recently moving to Crown Point, IN. Mr. Patterson worked in the steel industry for more than 30 years and retired from LTV Steel in 1994. Bob is remembered as an avid golfer and for his love of family, barbershop music and his wonderful sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Delores; and four children, Robert Timothy (Cynthia Phillips) Patterson of Sewickley, PA, James (Georgine) Patterson of Fairborn, OH, Kimberly (Mike) Bernstein of Merrillville, IN, and Sheri (Don) Tokoly of Crown Point, IN; ten grandchildren, James, Grey, Nick, Grant, Bowen, Garrett, Tom, Griffin, Sara, and Hanna; two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Maci; and three siblings: Doris Nene and Carol Sickafuse of New Castle and William (Judd) Patterson of Poland, OH.Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 2014, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. The New Castle Honor Guard will conduct a ceremony at 3:45 p.m. There will be an additional viewing period at 10 a.m. before the funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2014, at the funeral home. The Rev. Nelson Thayer will officiate Burial will be in the Castle View Memorial Gardens.
