Robert Rapp was called home to heaven on Monday, December 24, 2018 with his loving family at his bedside. Born January 6, 1922 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Norman and Mary Rapp. He married Minerva Suciu on November 17, 1945 who passed away on July 19, 2015.
Bob was a self-taught engineer. He retired from Fleming Steel Company as Vice-President Engineering in 1987 after more than forty years with the company. He was responsible for many unique and original designs for large aircraft hangar doors. Bob was a long time member of the Neshannock Township Zoning Board of Appeals where he was instrumental in formulating many of the zoning codes used by the township at that time. He was a retired member of the New Castle Salvation Army board. Bob was an active member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher.
Bob is survived by his sons; Richard (Cheryl) Rapp and Thomas (Joan) Rapp, all of New Castle; and three granddaughters, Margie Rapp, Emily (Sasha) Macedo, and Gretchen (Mat) Meyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Minerva, his daughter Rena Probst, his grandson William J. Willy Quinn and a sister, Mary Lou.
Bob will be missed by many. He was a great father and grandfather, a faithful and compassionate man, he taught us all to know and love God. He taught us how we should treat others, teaching us by example.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 30, from 3:00-6:00pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will take place on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Pastor Aaron Christy officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
