Obituary

Robert J. Reiter, 77, of Hickory Twp., passed away surrounded by his loving family on the evening of October 23, 2026, at his home.

Bob was born on January 12, 1949, in New Castle, to the late Ferdinand and Dorothy Roberts Reiter. He was a graduate of New Castle High School and proudly served his country in the US Navy during Vietnam. When Mr. Reiter was discharged from service, he married the love of his life, the former Mary Ann Papa, on July 24, 1971. They had been married for 55 years.

Bob retired from Penn Dot as a foreman after 35 years. He was the past secretary of AFSCME Local 1880. Mr. Reiter served in the CYS Board of Directors and was a member of AMVETS. Bob had many hobbies and interests which included playing hearts with his brothers and brother-in-law, hunting, fishing, playing bocce, spending time with his family and his animals, especially his little boy “Odie.” He was also famous for his “over the top” Fourth of July parties. He loved his farm and being outside on his equipment. Excavation work was his passion forming Bob and JJ’s Digging and Ditching, with his grandson Joshua, after his retirement.

In addition to his wife Mary Ann, Bob is survived by his daughters Dr. Nicole Carlson, and husband Chris; Tracy Cunningham, and husband Michael, both of New Castle; one brother, Gary F. “Bucky” Reiter of North Huntington, PA; one brother-in-law, Philip Julian, of New Castle and 3 grandchildren, Hannah and Joshua Soom and Isabella Carlson.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, 2 brothers, Edward and Ronald Reiter and 2 sisters, Peggy A. Julian and Beverly “Beebe” Guinaugh

A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd. The Rev. Fredrick Gilbert will officiate. A visitation will take place immediately following the service from 4:30 to 6:30 PM.
