Robert M. Salmen, age 89, of New Castle, passed away on October 1, 2022, at Avalon Springs Place in Mercer, PA.

Born March 22, 1933, in New Castle, he was the son of the late John and Sara (Baier) Salmen.

On August 8, 1959, he married his beloved wife of 59 years, Patricia Salmen. She proceeded him in death on November 23, 2018.

Robert was a graduate of Union High School. Following his 32-year employment as store manager at A&P Grocery, he was employed for 10 years at Country Fair. He was a member of the Eagles Club and an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Notre Dame football fan. He always enjoyed meeting new people and spending time getting to know them. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

The family would like to thank the Avalon Springs Place and Kindred Hospice for their compassionate care that they gave to Robert.

Robert is survived by a son, Robert (Laura) Salmen of Matthews, North Carolina; a daughter, Maureen Salmen of New Castle; one brother, Richard Salmen of Cincinnati, OH; two sisters, Elsie Stimple and Anne McCullough both of New Castle; one granddaughter, Brittany (Josh) Miller of New Wilmington, PA, and three great grandchildren, Mason, Eliza, and Lachlan who lovingly referred to their grandfather as, "Bob".

In addition to his wife and parents, Robert was proceeded in death by his brother, John Salmen.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8th from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd, New Castle.

A celebration of life service for both Robert and his late wife, Patricia, will take place immediately following visitation, at 3:00 PM. Family and friends are encouraged to wear Steelers and Notre Dame attire.
